SEIU 121RN nurses were recently visited by several legislators at their worksites. At Providence Tarzana Medical Center, members talked with Assemblymember Matt Dababneh about various health and safety violations that the hospital has been cited for by Cal/OSHA. After finishing his walk-through of the hospital, Dababneh said he would urge management to correct the violations and improve patient care. Since then, the Assemblymember has called the Tarzana CEO a couple of times and passed along his observations of the hospital’s physical condition as well as patient care conditions.
In addition, the members at Gardens Regional Medical Center invited State Senator Tony Mendoza for a walk-through of the hospital. RNs expressed to him their concerns over the status of the hospital. With high turnover in management, patient care has suffered throughout the years. Mendoza committed to help put pressure on the hospital to remedy patient care issues.
Finally, Assemblymember Eric Linder visited nurses at Riverside Community Hospital. With Linder being the first Republican legislative candidate endorsed by SEIU 121RN and SEIU California in more than 20 years, our members were excited to meet him and introduce him to the nurses that care for his constituency. Linder was equally excited to meet 121RN members and committed to seeking nurses’ opinion and expertise when it comes healthcare issues.
