Our Union is making a difference in the upcoming elections. Since Labor Day, members and staff have called other members to educate them on the importance of passing Proposition 56. The California Healthcare, Research & Prevention Tax Act of 2016 (commonly known as the “Tobacco Tax” of 2016) will add a $2 per pack tax on cigarettes, and a comparable amount on other nicotine and tobacco products. The estimated $1.1 to $1.8 billion raised annually will help reduce teen smoking, help fund treatment for cancer or tobacco related diseases, and help fund Medi-Cal.

SEIU 121RN nurses are helping save lives by passing Proposition 56 and informing co-workers why a yes vote is necessary.
