Letter from our President on the Thousand Oaks tragedies

Dear SEIU 121RN Members,

It is with a heavy heart that I share some horrible news: our sister SEIU Local 121RN member Kathy Dunham, an Oncology RN at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, lost her 21-year-old son Jake in the Borderline “College Night” shooting last week.

Please consider joining many other 121RN and community members who have already contributed in Jake’s memory via a “Go Fund Me” page »»» here.

Our fellow 121RN members at hospitals in that region were among those who cared for the victims of that tragedy. And then not even a day passed before horrible fires broke out in the same area.

At this time, it’s still too early to know how many of our members are affected by these awful events. Rather than wait, however, our SEIU Local 121RN Executive Board voted yesterday to contribute to SEIU California’s Disaster Relief Fund.

  • To add your personal contribution to this fund that assists SEIU members across California, please click »»» here.
  • If you have been affected by these fires and would like to apply for assistance from this fund, please click »»» here.

Please don’t hesitate to reply to this email to let us know what is happening at your hospital and in your community.

In unity,

Gayle Batiste
President, SEIU Local 121RN
RN, CNOR, Northridge
