$2,000 121RN Robert Thomas Memorial Scholarship

This memorial scholarship is awarded to one SEIU Local 121RN member who has served within the past five years as a Bargaining Team Member, Steward, Chapter or Executive Officer, Union Committee Member, Legislative Lobby Team Member or other active position within the Union or Chapter. Robert Thomas was an RN at Pomona Valley Hospital who was active in SEIU Local 121RN until his health prevented him from doing so. We proudly announce this year’s winner…

Manuela Navarrette, RN John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital

Manuela is an SEIU activist and Union Steward at JFK Hospital in Indio, CA. Manuela is also a member of her bargaining team which recently ratified their new contract with a 100% YES vote. This contract included additional language that creates more fairness in the progressive discipline process. Manuela also assisted in the negotiation and design of the JFK Clinical ladder and is an active member of JFK's Patient Care Committee.
