TODAY the full Senate votes on our safe staffing law—Call now! Our voices are making a difference!

May 9, 2019

Dear SEIU Local 121RN Member,

Call *TODAY* to urge your state Senator to support SB 227 for patient safety.

The momentum is building on our "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill, SB 227. It's already passed through both the Senate Health and Appropriations Committees.

Make no mistake, our lobby visits and calls really make a difference. This is how important nursing laws get passed…because we make some noise.

The next step *TODAY* is a vote of the entire state Senate!

Please call your Senator now—we've made it really easy:

  1. Just click »»» here, read the instructions, and then type in where you live in the short form at the bottom of the web page so we can look up your Senator.
  2. Then we'll call you and connect you to your Senator's office.
  3. We've even given you a suggested script to use when you make your call!

Our important "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill will finally put some teeth into California's nurse-to-patient ratio regulations. California has groundbreaking rules on minimum staffing levels, safe floating, acuity measurement systems and proper patient coverage during breaks, but too many hospitals ignore them. SB 227 will bring unannounced inspections solely focused on staffing and establish escalating (and hefty) fines on hospitals who continue to violate Title 22 safe staffing regulations.

Call now for safe staffing in our hospitals.

In unity, Gayle Batiste, RN, CNOR President, SEIU Local 121RN

P.S. ICYMI, here's more on what our bosses have been saying:

I wasn't surprised at the opposition's comments, but they hit me hard all the same. They painted a false picture last year, too.

Are you ready to fight their fairytale?
