Dear SEIU Local 121RN Members:

As you know, our "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill, SB 227 successfully made it all the way through the California Senate back in May. Now it's repeating the process on the Assembly side of the statehouse. (For a quick reminder on how a bill becomes a law, check out the old "Schoolhouse Rock" video: "I'm just a bill.")

Great news: on June 25th, our bill passed out of the Assembly Health Committee 10-to-3

Going into the day's committee vote—the first step on this side of the statehouse—we knew from last year that our bosses over at the California Hospital Association save most of their heavy lobbying for the Assembly, spreading their fairytale that either they don't have any staffing problems or if they do, it's Nurses' fault!

What this bill will do...

Our important "Stop Repeat Offender Hospitals" bill will create hospital accountability by establishing unannounced visits by CDPH and imposing fines against hospitals for violations of Title 22 nurse-to-patient ratios.

Hope you can make it to Sacramento with us!

In unity,

Gayle Batiste, RN, CNOR President, SEIU Local 121RN

P.S. Be sure to sign this petition for national nurse-to-patient ratio regulations!
