The latest from union contract negotiations at Encino Hospital Medical Center

Last June, a man walked into the Encino Hospital Medical Center ER and stabbed a Doctor and two Nurses. The incident brought the nationwide trend of increased attacks on hospital staff too close to home.

Management pledged their commitment to keep Encino Nurses safe. They said that they would review security plans and policies. They promised to offer both counseling and training. Nurses report that none of that materialized.

A year after the incident, weapons are still being brought into the hospital, putting staff and patients in harms way. Nurses are required to search patients bags for contraband, escalating potentially dangerous situations.

Encino management refuses to give Nurses, the most likely victims of workplace violence, any say in the hospital’s plans to deal with it.

To put a stop to workplace violence at Encino, and in all of our hospitals. It is time to speak out.
