Greater El Monte Community Hospital 2023 Bargaining Update #4

June 15, 2023

Will we strike?

That’s up to AHMC and hospital management — will they force us to strike by refusing to respect nurses’ reasonable proposals? They may leave us no choice. On Wednesday, yet again, AHMC severely devalued nurses’ contributions and made no serious effort to reach agreement on compensation.

Our strike vote was strong. Greater El Monte Nurses turned out in force, and 100% of ballots were in favor of a strike. Our vote authorizes the bargaining team to call a strike if necessary.

Management keeps saying across the bargaining table that they want us to think about "helping" the hospital. Our job is to help our patients, and we're doing it and doing it well. It's management's job to compensate Nurses adequately so that the hospital is safely staffed. It's time that we demand to be valued so that our hospital can recruit and retain qualified registered nurses.
