Greater El Monte Community Hospital 2023 Bargaining Update #5

June 30, 2023

The latest on union contract negotiations at Greater El Monte Community Hospital

The community of El Monte is very concerned about the conditions at the Hospital. That's because we brought it to their attention. The coverage we received in news coverage across the south land got to the attention of many. El Monte's Mayor Jessica Ancona, who visited our picket and spoke, told us his work wasn't done and that he will send a letter to the hospital in support of our efforts to address the problems at El Monte. Moreover El monte need to listen to Nurse ideas to solve these issues. In her own words:

These proposals include ensuring that the hospital has an adequate supply of PPE for the next public health crisis; involving nurses in decisions on how the hospital approaches staffing; and developing a comprehensive workplace violence plan that takes nurses experiences with violence into account. All of their proposals are aimed at making Greater El Monte Hospital a place where nurses feel that they can thrive, something which should stem the crisis of turnover.

We thank Mayor Ancona for her support, she knows, Nurses are prepared to do anything, including STRIKE to fix the problems at El Monte. That's why it is so important that you share your stories. We hear mumbling about units working out of ratio, issues with equipment failures, and many more problems. Your bargaining team and I need to know what's going on! Reach out to us and your stories stay with us, if you want them too. Also, we bargain again soon, Tuesday 7/18 stay tuned for updates.
