Several members of 121RN at Kaiser Moreno Valley began training for Kaiser's Labor Management Partnership in April. Barbara Washington-Knight, Anita Triglia-Hook and Jasper Diaz will continue learning about the Partnership for four months and then will begin bargaining with management on how to implement benefits granted to Moreno Valley RNs through the National Agreement of the Kaiser Coalition of Unions.
What is the Kaiser Coalition of Unions?
The Coalition is recognized as the collective bargaining agent for 96,000 Kaiser Permanente employees in 30 Unions. Formed in 1997 after years of labor turmoil, the Coalition is considered a model of genuine partnership and mutual respect between management and employees.
More importantly, 500 Coalition employee-delegates negotiate what’s called the “National Agreement,” which covers all members of the 30 participating Unions.
What does the Kaiser National Agreement include?
The 2010 agreement includes (among many other things):
- 3% across-the-board wage increase
- Maintenance of current benefits package
- Defined benefit pension plan
