Staffing Problems Persist

February 24, 2017

The hospitals continue to face difficulty recruiting management staff. The CNE and Chief Physician positions have been filled but names have not been announced.

The hospital regularly fails to staff units to their own staffing plan as required by law. Charge RNs carry their own patient load. A patient in ICCU recently had to wait until morning to receive a CT scan that was ordered because there were no RNs available to take the patient to the scanner. Our Union has filed a staffing complaint with the DPHS.

ED Case Managers were moved to an area that was not intended to be an office space. As a result, one Case Manager sustained an injury and members filed a complaint with Cal/OSHA. An inspector visited the hospital and we are waiting to hear the outcome. In a separate case of injury to a member, we had previously filed a complaint with Cal/OSHA and the facility has received two citations and a $2,000 fine.
