VC Star: Ventura County hospitals receive 239 complaints, reports show; Los Robles cited most

March 9, 2024

VC Star: Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks violated state regulations 32 times in incidents investigated in 2023, according to California Department of Public Health records.

The Ventura County Star looked into violations issued by CDPH at area hospitals, and found that HCA-owned Los Robles Regional Medical Center received the most. The reporting—which notes warnings Los Robles nurses voiced during our 2023 HCA strike—includes shocking data:

"California Department of Public Health records show the for-profit hospital operated by HCA Healthcare violated state regulations 32 times in incidents investigated in 2023. The deficiencies include at least 11 violations of state-mandated staffing ratios for nurses."

It also reveals an important insight: despite multiple substantiated complaints related to staffing violations, Los Robles received only one fine. CDPH officials declined to comment.
